How to Win Your Travis County Property Tax Protest and Save Money


If you think your Travis County appraisal of your home is too high and greater than it's actually worth, protesting Travis County taxes is a great way of lowering your bill and saving yourself money. Travis Central Appraisal District (TCAD) appraises Travis County property, and the appraisals set the amount of money you will be paying in property tax form. If you feel the appraisal was wrong, this is how you should protest.

Step 1: Read Your Appraisal Notice

The initial step to protest against a Travis County property tax is to carefully read your upcoming appraisal notice from TCAD. Ensure that your property details such as square footage, condition, and classification are accurate. Inconsistency or inaccuracy, e.g., erroneous square footage or wrong description of the property, can be the basis of your protest.

Step 2: Seek Supportive Evidence

By presuming you are going to be in a position to win, you are then going to be asked to provide some kind of evidence of the existence of overvalue of your property.
